Modify Outlook Contact RTF-enabled Flag Macro

This sample Microsoft Outlook 2000 VBA macro can be used to change the RTF-enabled flag on all selected Outlook contact item e-mail addresses without going through each single contact item and e-mail address manually.

Known Issues

This sample can be used only with Microsoft Outlook 2000 installed in 'Corporate or Workgroup Mode', using the MAPI provider to access Microsoft Exchange Server.

After installing the Outlook security update this sample will stop working properly because of changes made by Microsoft. For more info on the Outlook security update please check Outlook e-mail Security Update

Note that the Office/Outlook 2000 setup does not install CDO 1.21 by default. You need to run the Office/Outlook 2000 setup and add CDO 1.21 as custom option.

Prerequisites

Make sure that Microsoft Outlook 2000 is installed in Corporate or Workgroup mode and running properly. Also make sure that CDO 1.21 is installed properly. Note that Outlook 2000 does not install CDO 1.21 by default.

Checked Build

If you would like to use this sample with another language version of Microsoft Exchange Server or Microsoft Outlook, it is possible that the sample will not work without modifications. Please consult the source code for more information. This sample is built and checked for a proper function using the following environment:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, with Service Pack 5, US English - International
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, with Service Pack 3, US English - International
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000, US English - International
Installation and Configuration
Component Description
modrtf.zip (2 Kbyte) Outlook 2000 VBA macro The Microsoft Outlook 2000 VBA macro, which can be used to change the RTF-enabled flag of the selected Outlook contact item e-mail addresses.

Open the VBA macro with notepad and copy the code into the clipboard.

Open Outlook 2000 and select 'Tools', 'Macros', 'Visual Basic Editor' to open the Outlook 2000 VBA editor. Expand the 'ThisOutlookSession' in the left-hand project window and paste the code into empty the right-hand window.

Select 'Tools', 'References' in the Outlook 2000 VBA editor and make sure 'Microsoft CDO 1.21' is selected. Note that Outlook 2000 does not install CDO 1.21 by default. If you don't see it in the Outlook VBA references dialog CDO 1.21 might not be installed on your machine. If so, you have to run the Office 2000/Outlook 2000 setup from CDO-ROM again and make sure CDO 1.21 is selected.

Close the Outlook 2000 VBA editor to save the changes.

To run the Outlook 2000 VBA macro open the desired contact folder, select all Outlook contact items you want to change, chose 'Tools', 'Macro', 'Macros', select the desired macro and hit 'Run'
